The Barstow 8th grade students got a sneak peek of the freedom they will have next year in the upper school. The middle school students had their very first move up day. They were able to experience how their school life will be next year with a buddy.

The move up day was great; everyone had an amazing experience. Out of all the interviews, no one had anything negative to say. The existing eighth graders wish they were in high school after that experience. “I’m excited because of the new classes and the teachers seem nice,” Radvin Shahbazian (’28).

Seven eighth graders were interviewed before and after the move up day, and the majority had the same answers. The freedom was the best part, and almost all eighth graders could agree! “High school has more freedom and better priorities for the students,” said Radvin Shahbazian (28’).

One of the best things was getting to be on your phone the whole day. While that might not be the greatest thing, to them it was awesome! In middle school, you can only have your phone out after the last bell rings at 3:30. In high school, you can have your phone out all day! “The best part was being on my phone,” says Lekan Lueder (28’).

After lunch, the eighth graders went to Idea Space for the rest of the school day. There they worked on their English project for 8th grade while devouring the delicious provided snacks. After they finished their project, they could do whatever they wanted until the final bell at 3:30.

The 8th grade students are now more excited and can’t wait for the opportunity to be in high school!
