What We Know About God of War: Ragnarök

Fans haven’t heard much about the upcoming God of War game since it was announced back in September of 2020, but a trailer shown in September of 2021 did give an interesting glance at gameplay and cinematics. We hope to learn more in the upcoming months, including an official release date. Although the game was delayed from an original release in 2021, Sony gave away a considerable amount of information involving plotlines and new mechanics.

According to Sony, they already have “two very big, very narrative-driven games in development: Horizon Forbidden West and the next God of War, For Horizon, we think we are on track to release this holiday season. But that isn’t quite certain yet, and we’re working as hard as we can to confirm that to you as soon as we can.”

“And for God of War, the project started a little later. So we’ve made the decision to push that game out to next year, to ensure that Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play,” the company said.

The game will pick up where the last one left off, with Kratos and Atreus returning to the ancient Norse world to try to put a stop to the titular world-ending prophecy, Ragnarok. Acting as the last chapter in the Norse storyline, God of War Ragnorok will seek to close all the loose ties left open in the previous installment. Now a teenager, Atreus is still recovering from the prior game’s discoveries and is looking for answers regarding his fate as Loki as well as a method to prevent Ragnarök from coming. Kratos and Atreus set out to find answers, looking for the long-lost old Norse God of War, Tr, who was thought to be dead.

Santa Monica Studios continued that, “We remain focused on delivering a top-quality game, while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our team, creative partners, and families. With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to shift our release window to 2022.”

There is no official 2022 release date for God of War: Ragnarok, but a lead from Chilean via Chilean gaming store JuegosDigitales indicated the game could be released as early as June 2022. Although nothing has been confirmed yet by Sony or Santa Monica, many fans are hopeful that their wait is nearly over.

With that, Santa Monica Studios further states their appreciation for the fanbase that, “Your support for the series and our studio has been a pillar of strength for us during every moment of development on this title. Thank you to everyone in the God of War community for continuing to believe in this project and our team. We can’t wait to share more as we get closer to the 2022 release of God of War Ragnarök.”

With the numerous PlayStation fans in the Barstow community, it is no doubt that God of War Ragnarök will be much awaited for.
