Watch and Learn: Chinese Classes Do Dumplings

Since 2009 Barstow’s very own Chuck and Cheryl Payne have been kind enough to host the operation that put Chinese class at the top of every students’ foreign language request form: Dumpling Day. Once a year, Mr. and Mrs. Payne allow students in all Chinese classes (ranging from 4th grade to 12th grade) to further immerse themselves into the culture by making dumplings. Students unable to eat the pork dumplings get to help make and eat vegetarian dumplings with a delicious vegetable filling. This operation ran smoothly for about a decade before being put on hold after 2019 due to COVID-19. After about a three year hiatus, dumpling day has finally returned. The re-integration of Dumpling Day went off without a hitch and with that, order has been restored in the Barstow School.
