Thanksgiving is a holiday about coming together and celebrating what you’re thankful for. It lets you connect with family and friends that you do not see regularly. It is an important tradition for Barstow students. Plus, there’s food.
“My favorite part of thanksgiving is the food,” Harrison Fink said, “I love my mom’s mashed potatoes.”
The food is a very important part of Thanksgiving. It’s what most of us think of when we think of the holiday. Besides the turkey, there are so many other favorite foods that are traditional to Thanksgiving. One of them is mashed potatoes, which is exactly what it sounds like, potatoes that are mashed up.
Other students found that other foods really made “Turkey day” come to life. “My favorite food is probably ham or the Mac and cheese that my grandma makes,” says Sebastian Johnson.
Speaking of food, the first Thanksgiving dinner happened mostly because of the food. In 1621 about 50 English settlers and around 90 Native Americans came together to celebrate a good harvest. We still celebrate Thanksgiving today, but not for the same reason. Now we celebrate it to show our appreciation and thanks to the people that we love. Thanksgiving is one of the most important holidays for so many reasons. These reasons include meeting with friends and family. It also involves meeting relatives that you don’t usually see a lot.
We enjoy Thanksgiving because of the food, the community, and most of all because we get to see the people that we love.
