Maserati has been enticing us with a new MC20 for quite some time and will now officially debut a 630-horsepower twin-turbo V-6. The company will also eventually produce an all-electric version. The MC20 is a mid-engine sports car and will be available as a two-seater coupe or convertible.
Mainly focused on the experience, Maserati has ditched many of the flashy features of its competitors and opted for a sleek cabin centered on the driver. By partnering with Dallara, a motorsport engineering firm, Maserati has engineered a carbon-fiber chassis with aluminum subframes. This design reduces weight and maximizes suspension and powertrain, which allows the MC20 to perform at a greater caliber than with a traditional aluminum body frame.
Maserati’s new engine implements an innovative twin-combustion mechanism inspired by Formula One cars and is synced to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Maserati cites a zero-to-62-mph time in less than three seconds and a maximum speed of more than 200 miles per hour. In comparison to the petrol model, Maserati says an all-electric MC20 with an all-wheel-drive will be available in the near future, marking the Italian luxury brand’s first venture into the electrification market.
Originally announced at the 2019 MMXX Maserati event. The MC20 was supposed to be in production by May 2020 although its showroom debut has been moved back. Since the brand has not made any statements on pricing, many expect the base price to be set around $195,000.GTS and Trofeo models climb around $220,000 and $250,000. No matter how it’s equipped, it’ll be a show-stopping, high-performance machine.
