If you are a senior, you should attend one of the senior-faculty coffee’s that take place once a month on the Barstow patio thirty minutes prior to the start of school. Chances are that if you are not a senior or a faculty member, you may not even know that the senior-faculty coffees even exist.
“The senior/faculty coffee is an informal time in which you seniors can mingle with faculty, talk about life and enjoy camaraderie and refreshments. This year we will be holding the coffee time before school from 8:00 – 8:25,” said Amanda Marvin, one of the upper school Spanish teachers.
When asked to share the senior experience of the event, Divya Dendi ‘22 had only positive things to say, “I thought the food was really good. The croissants and muffins were delectable. But it was even better to casually talk to the teachers. I specifically remember talking to Profe Marvin and she complimented me on my presentation on phytotelmata. This just really shows how close we’ve really gotten to the teachers as seniors. It’s funny though because I never even had profe as a teacher. Last year, I always ate lunch in her room and I got really close with her during that time.”
Likewise, Mr. Pepin, another upper school Spanish teacher, enjoyed his time at the event. He explained that, “I find the senior faculty coffee to be a tremendous opportunity for the senior to engage outside of the formal classroom setting. Nothing is better than hot steamy croissants and world class coffee.”
Dr. Ketchell, an upper school history teacher, reciprocated these feelings. He described his experience as “very pleasant because the weather was really nice, the pastries were delicious; they brought hot apple cider. I mean who’s going to complain about that. Time goes by fast, so there are only a few opportunities to chat with the seniors. One quarter is practically done and we should take as many opportunities as possible to spend time with them (the seniors) as it’ll be May before you know it.”
The senior-faculty coffees have been all around wonderful experiences for both the seniors and the faculty. There will be another senior-faculty coffee each month, so there are plenty of chances to attend. Senior year goes by fast and there is only so much time left to enjoy it. Senior-faculty coffees may be one of the most memorable experiences you leave Barstow with.
