As the crisp pumpkin air descends upon The Barstows School grounds, the sound of rackets hitting the fuzzy tennis balls echoes across the courts, signaling the start of another exciting season for the girls tennis team.
Coach Scott Livingston indicates the season is going well so far, “I think it’s going great because we’re getting a lot of girls to understand that it’s a lifetime sport and to start playing now in grade school and in high school because you can play until you’re retired.”
Coach Scott consistently emphasizes tennis being is a lifelong activity passed down through generations. He highlights the sense of community and the family bonding that it holds. Coach Scott’s personal connection to the game and the way it has enriched his life adds a compelling layer to the narrative, underscoring the timeless and holistic nature of tennis as a sport for people of all ages. This resonant blend of tradition, passion, and unity makes the girls tennis program at Barstow a beacon of inspiration and friendship within the community, embodying the essence in its celebration of skill, growth, and shared experience.
Arya Ahsan states that, “Tennis is a great and easy way to get out there, socialize with teams, and to have fun while playing a sport.”
Jahnavi Kakarala also states, “I actually tried volleyball, and basketball but they just didn’t seem to stick although tennis did.” Both of these quotes are incredible examples of how tennis is an amazing sport and that playing tennis is a great skill to have.
The girls on the tennis team treat each other like family, they work hard and make a dream team! Like Coach Scott, every person has their own story and personal ties to tennis. Tennis is a lifelong sport and is a great extracurricular and can get you into the Varsity team, and even a scholarship if you stick with it and practice a lot. We are proud of every girl on our tennis team! The bond of girls tennis goes beyond just a sport, creating lasting relationships and lifelong memories for each player.
