The Remarkable Day Before

Christmas Eve is an amazing day that millions of people all over the world should take part in with traditions and activities.

Preparing for Christmas Day is very exciting and important if you celebrate the holiday. The anticipation people have leading up to the holiday makes a lot of families engage in fun affairs and traditions with one another. Everybody’s take on Christmas is not always the same as others though. Seventh grade student Evelyn Benson ‘30 is an example of someone who has a more unique experience with Christmas than a lot of other people have.

“It’s my half birthday on Christmas so I wake up and get a small present from my mom, then I take care of horses very early in the morning on Christmas Eve so I can get an early start for Christmas Day,” Evelyn Benson ‘30.

Though many people may not acknowledge Christmas Eve to be as great as Christmas, you and your family can make a lot of new traditions with one another. Having memories before Christmas day is very exciting to make, as when you look back on your past memories it just makes the holiday even more special. Eighth grade student Dorothy Buckner ‘29 has many specific memories close to her. Some fun, exciting, or weird, any memory can be close to you.

“Last year my aunt and I were a team in pictionary and we cheated because the theme was really weird, and I don’t know why, that memory has just always stuck with me,” Dorothy Buckner ‘29.

Having family gatherings are some of the greatest times that you could have in your life. Getting to spend well deserved time with your family is very exciting. There are a lot of people who have family events with one another, or some just have gatherings at night for a peaceful slumber. An example of someone who has a tradition of doing this is Evelyn Benson.

“All of my family members come over to my house and sleep over the night before Christmas, although we do not have any specific gathering during the day time” Evelyn Benson ‘30.

Christmas Eve is such an exciting time, as you are just waiting for Christmas. However, many kids cannot wait for Christmas as the anticipation is just too much, and some parents even let their children open all their Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve. This is not the case for some people though, because some students at Barstow are not allowed to open their Christmas presents. Seventh grade student Evelyn Benson is an example of this type of person, though she gets to open a present for her half birthday she doesn’t for her Christmas ones.

“My mom lets me open my half birthday present on Christmas Eve, but I am not allowed to open my Christmas presents on Christmas Eve” Evelyn Benson ‘30.

Though Christmas is a joyous time that millions of people enjoy, many people get stressed the day before Christmas because of having to do so many preparations and cleaning for their guests. Buckner’s parents have a lot of preparation to get done before Christmas day.

“My parents panic a lot before Christmas just because of all the important things that they need to get done, but I don’t really panic” Dorothy Buckner ‘29.

Christmas Eve is a wonderful time of the year that many people who celebrate Christmas enjoy. Though Christmas can take a lot of credit for the excitement, there are a lot of other activities and things that happen behind the scenes to have a successful Christmas.
