The 2021 Club Fair Offers New Beginnings for Current Barstow Students

The Barstow Club fair offered new social opportunities for students in Upper School.

“Would you like to join? We have food!” If you attended the Barstow activities and club fair on September 9th, you most likely heard this sales pitch from one of our multiple club executives. Barstow’s Annual Activities and Club Fair allows students and community members to engage their passions and interests with a group of people who share similar opinions

B-Line writers and co-presidents of International Affairs Club Amrit Sian ‘22 and I were active participants in the fair, and Sian ’22 had some comments on how the fair went,  “Overall, I would say the turnout for the fair was pretty good! In my eyes, I could tell the student body was definitely eager to get involved in the community and with some of their peers whether it be to learn and hone their skills in certain areas like in the Fictional Writers Club or Knowledge Bowl, or even simply just to have some fun with friends like in Fantasy Sports Club.”

In a school year that feels the most normal the student body has experienced in a while, it’s vital that the community comes together in ways like clubs. To no fault of anybody, the Barstow community as a whole has been distanced from each other for the last year and a half, so things like clubs and student organizations offer a chance for some reconciliation. The club fair also presents a chance for mingling and introduction between students who have not had the chance to do so in Upper School to this point. For underclassmen in particular, this was a fantastic opportunity to get involved in organizations with upperclassmen who they might not have otherwise gotten a chance to know due to the lack of large group activities in their high school careers.

With no limit as to what clubs students are able to participate in or start (within reason), the list of clubs represents a wide range of interests, affiliations, and goals. There are approximately 30 clubs currently active in the Upper School, and they are as follows: Cyber Patriot, Robotics, Amnesty International Club, International Affairs Club, Jewish Student Union, Medical Ethics Club, Glee Club, Knowledge Bowl, French Club, Fantasy Sports Club, Anime Club, Card Games Club, Fictional Writers Club, Chess Club, Math Club, Science Club, Gay-Straight Alliance, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Pep Club, Diversity Club, French Club, Louder Than a Bomb, Film Club, Movies and Foodies, Music Critics Club, and Kariessentes.

Regardless of whatever your interests or hobbies are, odds are Barstow has something for you. Students should not hesitate to reach out to any club leadership members and inquire about details and/or joining the club
