Girls tennis played two matches against Liberty and Maranatha.
Girls tennis faced off against Liberty High School, a Class 3 school located in North Kansas City. While the team lost, the match definitely proved to be interesting with quite a few close calls and tiebreakers.
First, in singles, Sanjana Akkulgari (‘26), Sam Hembree (‘25), Zoey Hrabe (‘24), and senior Aishi Sethi (‘23) all put up “good fights” at the net, according to Hrabe.
Lia Adams (‘24) and senior Mary Colombo (‘23) played especially well, losing to the Liberty Bluejays in close 5-8 and 6-8 matches respectively.
Adams and Colombo also played together in doubles, winning an easy 8-3 match against Liberty’s #1 seed.
Each player competed in one singles match and one doubles match, giving the team more experience on the court.
Additionally, Adams explains that, “each match helps us come together as a team.” That cohesiveness and camaraderie will benefit the team in the future, exemplified by their performance against Maranatha on September 14.
“This win will really give us a boost of confidence, that will hopefully translate to a successful season,” explains Hembree.
In this decisive 9-0 victory, the girls prove to be slowly coalescing as a team. Make sure to go out and support!
