With the soccer season coming to a close, the team has been busy, preparing for districts and resting up injuries before their important postseason. Before they completely close out the season, though, the boys played St. Michaels in their penultimate home game.
This match, while highly anticipated, was not really pivotal, especially since Coach Scott Huppe wanted his varsity players in their best shape for the postseason. Because of this, many of the junior varsity players got their chance to play.
The team held off the St. Michaels offense for almost the whole first half, only allowing one goal less than three minutes before half. After half, Barstow let in one more goal before subbing in myriad benched players.
Senior JP Moore ‘23 took over for starter junior Alex Hart ‘24, and played a great rest of the game, never allowing another goal. Sophomores Eli Zeldin ‘25 and Alex Norman ‘25 also got some playing time, including a good run from Zeldin that almost resulted in a goal.
A few varsity starters, however, were unable to be subbed out, due to various injuries that plagued the team. For one, forward Owen Snyder ‘24 had to stay in for the entire game, as well as right back Pierce Farinelli ‘24. Farinelli’s sub, Devarshi Desai ‘23, was out for the game due to a back injury.
Even though the team lost 0-2, the strong performance of Barstow’s JV against St. Michael’s highly-rated varsity leaves the soccer team feeling good going into districts.
The team plays against Summit Christian at their final home game on Tuesday, October 25. The game is also senior night, so be sure to show out for the team!
