Opinion: Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill has earned the nickname “cheetah” due to his unique speed. Many commentators in the NFL regard Hill as the league’s fastest player. From a young age, Hill has frequently been the fastest among his peers and his speed astonished school teachers and coaches.

He was raised in Pearson, Georgia, and went to Coffee High School, where he set records for both the 100 and 200-meter sprints at the 2012 Georgia 5A state meet. Not only is Hill unique because of his speed, but he is also unique as he never played high school football.

Hill started playing football at Garden City Community College where he ran for 659 rushing yards and got 67 receptions for 532 receiving yards. Hill then chose to continue his football career at Oklahoma State University his junior year adding 31 receptions for 381 receiving yards and 534 rushing yards to his stats. Just as Tyreek’s career was looking promising, he faced some obstacles throughout his journey.

Tyreek’s career at OSU was cut short after he was arrested for domestic abuse charges. About a year later, Tyreek announced that he would play college football at the University of West Alabama, though the coach was reluctant to sign him because of his history. His stats here withered as he never exceeded 100 rushing or receiving yards in the 11 games he played for the team.

Hill was projected to be undrafted during the 2016 NFL Draft, mainly because of his violent history, but his speed and determination at his college pro day impressed the Chiefs. In the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Hill with the 165th selection. Since being drafted, Tyreek Hill has set records in the NFL. Hill’s stamina and hand-eye coordination have set him apart from the other wide receivers in the NFL today and earned him the nickname the “cheetah.”
