Frank Dominick Clark is a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Kansas City Chiefs and helped the Chiefs to win Super Bowl LIV. Clark was traded to the Chiefs on April 23, 2019 and signed a five-year contract worth 105.5 million dollars with 63.5 million guaranteed. Clark made his debut with the Chiefs in the week one matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars where he made one tackle and an interception which helped the Chiefs win 40-26. This was the start to a great season for the defensive end as he finished the 2019 season with 37 tackles, eight sacks, four passes defensed, three forced fumbles, and one interception. If he continues with this upward trend, Frank Clark would be one of the most valuable players to have on your fantasy football team.
Via the Chiefs’ website, they think that “Clark would bring toughness and assignment-sound run defense not seen on a Chiefs defense in recent memory. He was coming off of his most productive season, a 13-sack 2018 campaign, and he was known to possess a nonstop motor and a fiery demeanor that would rally a defense around him and the vocal Mathieu.”
In the Divisional Round of the playoffs against the Houston Texans, Clark sacked Deshaun Watson a total of three times which helped to secure the 51-31 win. This was why the Chiefs traded for Clark as they thought, “he (Frank Clark) is the second-best pass-rusher in (the) league…Clark has the elite skill set to someday be the league’s defensive player of the year” per their website.
He has continued to be an unstoppable force since he was able to end the AFC Championship game against the Tennessee Titans with a sack on Ryan Tannehill on a fourth down late in the fourth quarter helping to close out the game for a 35-24 Chiefs win. Finally, in Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers when the team needed him most, Clark was able to make a game changing sack on Jimmy Garoppolo on a fourth down late in the fourth quarter helping the Chiefs secure their first Super Bowl victory in over 50 years.
Frank Carke has always been in the top percentage of his class when it came to sports, more specifically, football. During his high school career, Clark played multiple positions at his high school such as safety, outside linebacker, tight end, and defensive end. As a senior he recorded 70 tackles, 19 sacks on defense, and 12 caught passes including three for touchdowns on offense. Clark was a three-star nationally rated player at tight end, outside linebacker, and defensive end.
On February 2, 2011 Clark signed his National Letter of Intent with the Michigan Wolverines. He started off his freshman year strong with an interception that set up one of Michigan’s two touchdowns in the 2012 Sugar Bowl against Virginia Tech. In the next two years of his college career, Clark was able to gain 60 pounds without losing any speed. After this body transformation, Clark became known as “Frank Clark the Shark” as he was able to break down any offense and get sacks on any opposing quarterbacks.
Clark’s career did face some obstacles as he has a criminal history. Clark was suspended from the Michigan team for a second-degree home invasion and for alleged theft. He was allowed to return to practice after pleading guilty to the charge and was given jail time for 15 years and a 3,000 dollar fine. He was allowed to expunge this charge due to the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act and only had to meet probation requirements. Clark did not face any more felony charges until 2021. He was arrested in Los Angeles on March 13, 2021 for accounts of felony gun possessions. These accounts worried many as he would not be able to play in the NFL until these charges were dropped.
He was added to the Chiefs’ roster Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens, but was not an important factor for the game as he only had two tackles and zero sacks. Clark has continued to play a smaller role due to his hamstring injury. He has been seen picking up his daughter from the Barstow Aftercare Program, though, so hopefully Clark is making a fast recovery.
