The Barstow middle school girls basketball season is coming to an end after an amazing season. This season, everyone learned how to work as a team. They are on a good winning streak this year. Their best game was against Bishop Seabury when they only had four players and were still able to win.
While we are ending the season, we have to say goodbye to our star 8th graders. This was the best season for them in middle school basketball. “This year the season is going really great because we all learned to work as a team,” said Stella Shumate ’27.
Shumate ‘27 is an 8th grader who started her basketball career when she was just five years old. “I started playing GABL in kindergarten and then I started competitive when my PE teacher told me I should come play for her,” said Shumate ‘27.
On the team and outside of the team, everyone says that Shumate ‘27 is the leader, “Stella is the team leader. She always knows how to get the team ready,” said Mrs Thornburgh. Mrs Thornburgh is at all the girls basketball games to be their best cheerleader. Shumate ‘27 is hoping to join the high school basketball team next year.
Lia Levin is an 8th grader who is on the middle school girls basketball team. Her basketball career started thanks to her mother. “My mom introduced me to the sport when I started playing in a league,” said Levin ‘27. Levin ‘27 knows how to handle the ball really well and is always ready to play, “Lia is my favorite player because you see this small little girl run past you so quickly in a blink of an eye. She always knows how to handle the ball,” says Mrs. Thornburgh.
Levin ‘27 and Shumate ‘27 are sad to leave middle school girls basketball and leave their 7th grade friends, but they are ready for a new beginning in high school basketball. Be sure to congratulate the girls on an amazing season and look for Shumate and Levin on the upper school team next year.
