Middle School Boys Soccer Has Come Again

Cole Farinelli (‘28), Hayden Carlson (‘28), Quincy Gilworth (‘28), Porter Phillips (‘28). The captains on Barstow’s A team.

The soccer community is very strong with everyone trying out. This year, 38 middle school boys tried out for the team making an A and B team.

There are mixed emotions about the upcoming class of ‘30 while Cole Farinelli (‘28) says, “ I am excited for new talent on the team,” while some other players do have mixed feelings. The Middle School Soccer team is all excited to be welcoming new players and are happy for the new addition of teammates!

With having these big teams, only two sixth graders managed to make the A team. Luca Pepin (‘30) and Sutton Passinisi (‘30) persevered and showed their true talent to get a spot on the A team. “I feel very welcomed and not nervous as a 6th grader on the A team,” Luca Pepin (‘30) says. The current seventh and eighth graders are looking forward to a great season with the new sixth graders. A majority of eighth graders have said that the Pembroke Raiders are their biggest rivals. It looks like they have gotten revenge from previous seasons, beating the Raiders 8-0 and having the game stopped early due to the mercy rule. These have been exciting games to watch ending in very high scores.

From the former players, the community is great. “ I am definitely gonna miss the community and people in high school,” says Porter Phillips (‘28). The soccer community is very strong with everyone trying out. This year, 38 middle school boys tried out for the team making an A and B team. The coaches did an excellent job splitting up the boys for equal teams. Their A team has 17 players which gives them a very adequate bench. With the exceptions of some new players on the A team, everyone is welcoming and excited for new talent. Everyone adds something different to the team and together they are unstoppable.

On the other hand, the B team is struggling a bit. But,they are a strong team and have the skills to keep doing better and better. The B team continues to win games, albeit at a closer margin than the A team. They are confident, however, that they will continue to improve and develop throughout the season. Either way we are rooting for both teams and hope they continue to show us Barstows true talent.

The eighth graders are looking forward to a great season and are definitely going to miss middle school soccer. Most are planning to play in highschool, whether that’s at Barstow or a different school. Porter Phillips (‘28), “I am going to miss playing with all of them and definitely the community.”

The community on the soccer field is better than ever this season. The team is definitely missing some of the freshmen, but they feel they have a shot at the finals this year. Cole Farinelli (‘28) says, “I feel like we have a chance at the finals this year because we have a better team overall this year.”

With the bonds and friendships that are continuing to build out on the soccer field, it is safe to say that this season is going to be a very memorable one. The energy at these games is unimaginable for middle schoolers. It sure makes the players days when they see fellow classmates cheering them on! Make sure you come out and support this Middle School Soccer season!
