Lamborghini has revived the ultimate poster car. The Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 is a brand-new, limited-edition production supercar that stays true to the Countach’s legacy as one of history’s most groundbreaking sports cars. Lamborghini has been known to take their time with their flagship V-12 supercars, producing only eight models throughout their 58-year history. Now, in 2021, one of the greatest sports cars ever produced returns to center stage with a new hybrid system, making it the most eco-friendly Lamborghini.
Senior Faizan Khalid ‘22 is excited for this reveal, saying, “This unique model gives nostalgia, but is still a competitor to the newer models.”
Built on an all-wheel-drive stage, the revamped Countach combines a 6.5-liter V-12 engine with a 48-Volt electric motor and supercapacitor technology. The car is able to generate over 770 horsepower from the combustion engine and an extra 34 horsepower from the electric motor for a total of 825 horsepower. According to Lamborghini, the car will reach 62mph in 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 221mph. These numbers outperform that of its predecessors by almost 5 seconds.
The basic design of the LPI 800-4 features the wedge-shaped frontal appearance of the first production Countach as well as a similarly crisp taper from the passenger compartment to the rear end. It also does not have a fixed-wing or evident aerodynamic system, although it is now fitted with a hidden active air system near the rear splitter. The new model more closely resembles the Aventador. The interior of the car resembles the Huracan Evo, sharing the newly integrated touchscreen infotainment system along with basic tech features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In celebration of the Countach’s 50th anniversary, the LPI 800-4 borrows much of its style from the original on a much larger frame. Its dimensions are 4,870mm in length, 2,099mm in width, and 1,139mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700mm, making it 730mm longer, 212mm wider, and 69mm taller than the previous model.
The reborn Countach is not the formal successor to the Aventador. Instead, it’s another limited-run model that takes its roots from Lamborghini’s aging and soon-replaced V-12 supercars. Lamborghini said they would only be making 112 cars worldwide. This scarcity makes them a very appealing collection item. Within the first day of Lamborghini’s announcement, all 112 cars were been claimed. Without official pricing released speculation places pricing of the Countach anywhere between 1 to 3.5 million dollars. Worldwide deliveries start in 2022.
Khalid (‘22) commented on the Countach’s incredible popularity, saying, “I know that there are many car enthusiasts here at Barstow, myself included, and I am curious to see how this model will be met by the general public. Though it is a $3 million dollar car, it is already sold out. I am also curious as to how the lower-end companies will adapt to these newer changes.”
Lamborghini’s revamped Countach has become an outstanding success for the company as the most publicized car of the year.
