Crime drama Money Heist, or La Casa de Papel, has garnered a large following, and fans waited excitedly for the fifth part. However, reviews are mixed and some say that the show should have ended on Part 4, or even after Part 2.

City Press journalist Phumlani S Langa’s review states, “There comes a time in the life of a show where the story must end. The formula becomes predictable and the characters wear thin. Money Heist, or La Casa de Papel, has reached this unfortunate point. It’s been a great journey with the loveable gang of thieves storming fortified buildings and making off with large amounts of money or gold.”

Most reviews of the show are opposites. Some say that the show should have ended after season two while others refuse to bash the show. Most people agree that the first portion was horrible but the finale redeemed it. Both sides agree that the second half of season five was the best because it most resembled the first few seasons. Barstow Upper School students should consider watching the show but might want to stop after the second season. Honestly, that is when the show should have ended.

”Season five is really good, especially the ending. It’s so good but so suspenseful. 10/10 one of the best shows, they may have hurt my emotions but it was good.” Ethan Ledezma-Nichols (‘24) said about Money Heist

The fifth season of the show starts immediately where season four left off. It is broken into two sections. The first five episodes were released on September 3, and the last five episodes were released on December 3.

The first half of the season is about the war that broke out between the robbers and the police. Season five has more violence than any previous parts, which keeps it exciting. While some of the earlier episodes seem to go on forever, the action makes it fly by. Even though the action was thrilling, it also did not seem necessary. Especially the part where Arturo waged a miniature war on the robbers, that scene with the machine gun on a forklift seemed obscure.

In general, the plot became repetitive during the third and fourth seasons. It followed the basic storyline of going through with a heist, something failing, and then eventually succeeding. But the fifth season broke that repetition with the declaration of war against the police. It brought a new intensity to the show.

A downside of the action was that it became the main focus. While the action was needed, it also made the show lose its plot. Before, it was focused on the intricacy of the plan and the struggles each robber faced. Now, it has more violence and hardly resembles the beginning storyline, especially during the first part.

After getting over the first part of season five, the show became so much better. The violence made it interesting but also was not necessary. In the end, the finale of the fifth season redeemed the show.
