Whether or not you have a tradition of making Christmas cookies as a family, many students can agree that these frosted sugar cookies are delicious.
“Sugar cookies are my favorite,” says Charlotte Eperjesy. However when making Christmas cookies at home, it can be difficult to find a good step by step recipe. With this recipe, you can learn how to bake these treats easily and efficiently.
The first step of making the best cookies is being sure that you have all the right ingredients. For starters, you need to combine your wet ingredients. This helps make sure that the ingredients are well stirred and not in chunks. Add one cup of softened butter into a bowl. In the same bowl, add one cup of sugar. Putting this in a mixer can help combine the ingredients better. Mix this until it is nice and fluffy.
After finishing this step, add your dry ingredients into the same bowl. Add in three cups of flour along with half a teaspoon of baking soda. Before baking, make sure to cool your dough in the refrigerator for around two to four hours. This step will help keep your dough moldable when cutting out your shapes.
While you are waiting for your dough to cool, it is a great time to begin making the frosting. Many students who tried the cookies really enjoyed the frosting.
“The frosting has great taste and consistency,” says Leila Block. To make the frosting, get a new bowl and first add your butter. You will need one stick. Mix the butter in your mixer until it is light and fluffy. Then, add one teaspoon of vanilla. Once these have been mixed together, it is time to add the main ingredient: powdered sugar. You need one full bag. Most powdered sugar bags are the same standard size, but for reference it should be 00 grams. While mixing this in your mixer, a great tip is to cover it in a dish towel. Due to all of the powdered sugar, the mixer could fling the sugar everywhere. The dish towel helps keep your area clean.
Cutting out the Christmas cookies is simple. All you have to do is get the cookie cutters of your choice and roll out your dough. Place the ball of dough on a piece of parchment paper and flatten with a rolling pin. Making the cookies too thin might result in ripped dough. To prevent this, flatten the dough until it is about one to one and a half centimeters thick. Then cut out the cookie and place it on a baking sheet with parchment paper. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. After it is heated up, place the baking sheet into the oven. Cook for ten to fifteen minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. This leads to the cookies being “ ..cooked perfectly,” says Leila Block. Take the cookies out of the oven and cool. Then it is time to frost.
Many Barstow students and teachers sampled the cookies made by this recipe. They received an overall 8.5/10. Dr. Oz shared that when he was growing up his mom would make butter cookies around Christmas time. “I really like buttery cookies, so if they had more butter I think they would be really good,” he says. “I would give these cookies 8.5/10.”
