Girls Tennis Advances to State

This year, a couple of players were able to win the individual districts and will move on to the individual state championships for girls tennis.

“The entire season was not ideal, we had a couple of very new players who had to step up and play varsity in one of the most difficult regular season schedules,” Coach Tom O’Brien said

“It was a challenging season. There were a few players that played varsity that should have been in JV. Everyone who came back had to play three spots higher than last year,” said Assistant Coach Terry Downs.

This match was particularly grueling and was not looking very hopeful for the players, but Lia Adams (‘24) and Mary Colombo (‘24) were able to win and will have the opportunity to go to the state championship. The individual state championship will be on October 13-15 in Springfield.

“We were in trouble from the beginning. We lost four to five, we won only one doubles match, which almost never happens. Normally, we win two out of the three doubles. Lia and Mary won their singles and the only doubles,” said Coach O’Brien.

“It was a very competitive and close tennis duo match and it came down to a third set tiebreaker,” said Coach Downs.

Good luck to Lia and Mary!
