On January 11, the girls swim team made the 50-minute trek from Barstow to the Gladstone Community Center to compete in the Winnetonka Meet. They faced Pembroke Hill School, Winnetonka High School, and Savannah High School.

In the 200 yard medley relay, Barstow’s two teams placed 5th and 6th place. Similarly, Barstow’s singular team in the 200 yard freestyle relay took 5th. Individually, Izzy Parr ‘24 took 8th in the 200 yard freestyle. Ava Adams-Huang ‘25 and Lasya Maganti ‘24 took 15th and 24th in the 50 yard freestyle, respectively. In the 100 yard freestyle, Sydney Georgie ‘25, Alexandra Huynh ‘24, and Lasya Maganti ‘24 took 10th, 12th, and 22nd, respectively. Finally, Kiley Burke ‘24 took 9th in the 100 yard backstroke.

“I thought it went pretty well, especially because it was our first swim meet,” swimmer Avani Lakkireddy ‘24 said. “We didn’t win crazy since we were competing against girls who were first in the state, but we didn’t get last in anything either, so I think that’s good for our first meet.”

This meet is a very promising start for the young team, which started just this year. The team already has standouts in certain strokes, like Cam Westphal ‘25 with breaststroke, Parr and Georgie with freestyle, and Huynh and Shkuta with butterfly.

With clear talent on the team, Lakkireddy is looking forward to competing in more meets and gaining experience for the next season. “We can all continue with it [swim team] and grow from this year,” she said.

Come support if you can! Barstow is excited to see what this budding swim dynasty has in store this season.
