With COVID-19 preventing many extra curricular activities and everyday routines for everyone around the world, Barstow has managed to allow a COVID safe basketball season for both the girls and boys teams, with a few changes to how the season usually looks.
To hone in more on the girls that lead the team this season, an introduction to this year’s seniors seems necessary. The team has Jaelyn Glenn, Brylee Glenn, Kiyley Flowers, and Liddy Scurato. Although Kiyley wasn’t eligible to play due to her being a transfer this year, she was an integral part of the team based on her ability to coach the girls. Alongside Head Coach Liz Monahan, she was able to watch the court and give important insight and tips to the girls using her high basketball IQ and keen sense of strategy. Liddy Scurato, or “The Glue,” was able to hold the team together with her attentiveness and knowledge on and off the court. She gave great tips and provided good energy during games while also making sure everyone was where they needed to be when preparing for games and such.
Brylee Glenn made a grand return this year after rehabbing her ACL tear from her junior year season. She had a double digit points per game average and an impressive stats list all around, as she has every season she’s played in high school. Brylee’s experience on the bench during her injury only strengthened her IQ on the court as she is able to coach the girls in between plays. Her passion for the game and willpower to work for her goals comes through in her game. We can’t wait to see how her strengths expand at K-State in the fall.
Jaelyn Glenn has played an MVP role every year of her high school career, as she overcame many obstacles and persevered against all odds. She had been accustomed to playing with her sister her entire career, so when Brylee got injured, Jaelyn was unsure of how it would also affect her as a player. Without surprise, it only made every piece of her skill set stronger as she became a more independent player on the court. She’s always had a strong stats sheet, but this year she set many records including most points made in a game at an incredible 58 points. Her and her sister scored their 1000 career points this season, making them the only set of siblings to accomplish this in Barstow history. Jaelyn will certainly establish an important position at K-State in the fall.
Brylee Glenn ‘21, Jaelyn Glenn ‘21, and Holly Woods ‘24 were recently named to All-Tournament teams. As one of the top five ranked girls teams in Missouri, they have had nothing but an exceptional season. The team won the Grain Valley Sonic Showdown Championship, which had only fueled their energy as they had hoped to make it to state this year. After an unfortunate loss in sectionals, the girls only have positive things to say about their season overall and can’t wait to start preparing for next season.
