A few weeks after their first competition, the Cyber Patriots club competed in their second competition. During the six-hour competition, the club was tasked with solving a network security challenge and a cisco networking challenge. These challenges involve “finding and fixing security vulnerabilities in Windows and Linux operating systems,” solving an online quiz, and completing a virtual networking exercise.

The club split into three groups: one that worked on Linux, one that worked on Windows 10, and one that worked on Windows.

Anders Hwang ‘23, the president of the club, says that “We have the most experience on Windows collectively but none with Linux, so we’re still working on figuring that out.”

Because of this Linux learning curve, the team may have underperformed a bit, but they gained useful knowledge on how to approach Linux problems in the future. This second round of competition also determined the team’s skill-level placement in the next competition, the State Round.

“I’m looking forward to putting into practice everything we’ve improved on and just spending a night with all my teammates,” says Hwang. “We’re probably going to keep at it and see how far we can take this season.”

The State Round will take place from December 9 to December 11. Good luck to the Cyber Patriots team going forward!
