Barstow Cross County attended the Maranatha Christian Academy Cross Country Invitational Meet, the first 5K meet that the whole team of three attended. Captain Isa Welty (‘24) secured 10th place out of the Top 15 runners. Mimi Wood (‘26) and Jackson Williams (‘25) also had strong performances, with Wood breaking her personal record, at a time of 28:52.
The team competed against Bishop Seabury, Christ Preparatory, Heritage Christian, Sumner, and St. Mary’s, all of which were teams larger than 10, and much larger than Barstow’s small team of 3.
“It’s very intimidating stepping up to the start boxes and being the smallest team there,” says Captain Welty. “But so far our races have been going really well after the initial nerves.”
Despite the team’s rapid improvement, they’ll need in person support to maintain motivation.
“It’s been pretty hard this year to keep up team morale since Cross Country isn’t one of Barstow’s main sports that people come out and support,” Welty said. “But overall the team has been doing really well.”
Barstow is hosting their only home cross country meet on October 4th, a great opportunity for students to show their support for one of Barstow’s smallest teams. Go support your fellow knights with a Green-Out!
