This season, Isa Welty ‘25 and Mimi Wood ‘26 competed at cross country’s Districts meet. Both athletes performed well, and Welty placed 21st! Since the top 30 at the meet qualify for State, Welty will be moving on to the State Meet.

Welty actually had the flu the week preceding Districts, but she “knew that [she] was going to compete no matter the circumstances.” Still, she was not able to train as hard as she wanted to before the meet because of her illness.

She explains that “I definitely wasn’t performing my best, but all that really mattered to me was being in the top 30.”

Welty describes other challenges the team has faced this season as a whole. The cross country team has only three members, and there’s a lack of support from the school. The athletes are often overlooked and have to go the extra mile to be recognized.

Despite these challenges, the team is strong, and members describe their positive experiences. If you are interested in joining cross country next year, reach out to Welty, Coach Baldwin, or Coach Keiffer.
