Future Health Professions, known as HOSA, is a passion-filled and quickly-developing US and MS club and makes a wonderful opportunity to use one’s creative potential and collaborate with both Middle and Upper schoolers in a safe place to make mistakes and learn. HOSA also gives a student the chance to give back to your community, even outside of Barstow’s campus.
“To me, HOSA is a very special place because it is a safe place for us all to grow and learn,” remarked Arya Ahsan ‘30
HOSA gives each student who joins a chance to study and teach others about their interests, compete in competitions, and also allows students to give back to their communities. This makes it a wonderful club for both students interested in the medical field and ones who are not.
The Middle School HOSA specifically has started off the school year strong with many goals and aspirations for the rest of the year. Mrs Amie Buckner, a HOSA advisor, hopes HOSA “can at least accomplish one or two competitions, travel a little bit, work, volunteer, [and] fundraising.” And with HOSA also being a large, national organization, traveling for conferences and competitions is possible.
Many of these goals are focused around volunteering at various non-profit groups and organizations. This is because of the unflinching drive HOSA members have to help others and improve their community, even in small ways. Arya Ahsan ‘30 believes that “when you get to help other people live their best lives, like animals or anything, it just feels really nice.”
And when working on these various volunteering projects, HOSA members will get the chance to meet new people and network with a large variety of people. Anya Shah ‘30, the MS HOSA club president, hopes that she can learn about different people and network in the medical fields she is interested in.
Barstow’s HOSA Chapter is always accepting new, determined members, in its safe space, who want to positively make a change while enhancing their future careers.
