Barstow basketball is a great opportunity to get started when trying a new sport. The team has a new roster filling in for eighth graders. Coaches are also very excited for the new year of basketball players. The tension in the air for who is going to make the “A” team is pretty high.

“I have always loved to play basketball and I have thought about playing for a team outside of school,” student David Humphreys said, “Basketball has been my main sport for a long time.”

Basketball brings people together to play a game where they bump elbows all game. With an intense crowd at The Barstow school even the seventh-grade science teacher Dr. Oz showed up for a few games. He said that he loved the atmosphere of the gym and he loved seeing the players outside of his science room. The middle school boys have some serious movies.

“My favorite move to do is a triple spin to the three-point line,” says David Humphreys.

David Humphreys was the star player last year on the sixth-grade team. He added the volume that the team really needed last year to give them that extra boost. Even so, the team ended with a losing record. The sixth-grade team ended with two wins and nine losses. It’s the team’s attitude, however, that will make all the difference.

David Humphreys said, “Even with a losing record, that didn’t break our spirits. The team and I kept our heads high and always looked forward to the next one.”

Among other big fans on the faculty is Mr. Drew Petty. Last year Mr. Drew was in the box helping with the stats of our players, putting his math skills to work.

The eighth graders last year will be hard to replace with their astounding performance. The eighth graders this year will really have to step up and build back what they lost last year. In addition to the new eighth graders there’s also a new group of seventh graders ready to run the floor.

The basketball teams are expecting great things with new students and a new group of sixth graders. The coaches and parents are excited to support them. Wish the best of luck to all teams!
