Continuing their winning streak, the boys soccer team won their second game of the season against Missouri public high school, Lone Jack High School. The game was the first of the Barstow Tournament, which will extend through the week and into the weekend, until Sunday, 9/4.

“It was really great to see the boys so excited, especially in the second half of the game,” says soccer manager Izzy Parr ‘24.

The first goal was scored by Tyler Mcneive ‘24, one of the varsity captains. As a forward, Mcneive is often leading the charge offensively, especially on scoring drives. Before Barstow could score another goal, Lone Jack scored against Alex Hart ‘24, Barstow’s starting goalie. Hart limited Lone Jack to one goal, though, as he made multiple saves and kept Lone Jack’s forwards from scoring for the rest of the game.

The game was tied at half, and the boys sat down at the bench, hydrated, and listened to Coach Huppe’s advice. “The boys described Huppe’s talk as legendary. It was clear that it invigorated them and made them play harder,” says Parr. The team also completed a few drills, such as running through cones, to get their heads back in the game.

In the second half, the Knights definitively dominated. Just a few minutes into the half, Cale Williams ‘25 faked a shot at the goal from the corner, instead kicking it to right back, Pierce Farinelli ‘24. Farinelli then shot the ball to Carson Matula ‘25, who put the ball in the net.

“Usually plays like that don’t work,” explains Parr. “It was like a pipe dream, and it was perfect.”

Next, Daniel John ‘24 found a wide open field as he ran down the green, scoring a clean goal. John also scored another goal off an assist from Raj Fanaswala ‘24, finishing out the game with a 4-1 score.

As for the student section, the crowd was smaller than the boy’s first game against St. Pius. However, there was still a solid turnout as quite a few juniors, sophomores, and a smaller number of seniors and freshmen came to support the soccer team

The soccer team’s next game is tonight at 5:45 PM at Barstow. We hope to see you there!
