For the first time since 2011, the Barstow Boys Soccer Team won the Barstow tournament, facing a bracket filled with various teams from across Missouri.

At the first game, Barstow played against Lone Jack, a small high school from Lone Jack, MO, near Lees Summit. The boys won 4-1, with goals scored by Tyler McNeive ‘24, Carson Matula ‘25, and two by Daniel John ‘24.

Next, the boys faced off against Sacred Heart, a school in Kansas City, Kansas. After losing their star players last year, the Sacred Heart team had a tough go. From the kickoff, though, both teams battled for the ball, going back and forth for almost the whole half.

Sacred Heart scored one goal, two minutes before halftime, leaving spectators feeling anxious during half. This did not stop the team, though, as the team scored two goals in the second half, transporting them into the championships of the tournament.

Finally, the boys played against Warrensburg High School, from eastern Missouri. The game was definitely hard work, but the team kept the ball in Warrensburg’s half of the field for a majority of the game.

The first goal of the game was scored by Cale Williams ‘25, in the second half. After a few more back and forths down the field, Barstow received an especially fruitful corner kick. Ironically, Warrensburg’s own defense #18 scored an own-goal.

With this 2-0 outcome, the boys were deemed the champions of the Barstow tournament. Don Stelting, Upper School Athletics Director, handed the trophy to team captain George Colombo ‘23. After quite a few whoops of joy, the team raised the trophy over their heads, celebrating a hard fought victory.
