Basketball Plays Games Against Van Horn

The game also included a student mixer, creating more excitement and hype around the basketball season.

In one of their first home games of the season, the boys basketball team won against Van Horn High School. The game has the biggest turnout of the season so far, mostly because of the promise of the mixer following the game.

The theme for the game was a “weird mix of jersey night and white out” according to sophomore Pamela Kuti ‘25. Even with this bit of miscommunication, though, the students definitely brought energy to the game.

Dylan Markey ‘24, a junior who attended the game, says that “there were almost a 100 students at the game, or at least it felt like it. My favorite part of the whole night was the excitement and energy while the team was playing.”

As for the players, the whole team finished strong, with the game ending with a close 52-48 win. Markey says that “Carson Matula [sophomore] always shows up at every game, and always gets clutch points when the team needs it.”

After the game, students headed to Price Hall for the mixer, with promises of McDonalds (graciously provided by Mo Darboe ‘23 and his family) and Mr. Muhammad’s DJing.

The faux dance was planned and set up by Pep Club president Bella Kateusz ‘23 with help from other students. For example, STUCO President Amelia Mohammadi ‘23 also helped set up the dance, but explained that “Bella, being a queen, brought all of the decorations and planned out the theme ‘Love Under the Sea.’”

The theme was slightly lost to a few of the attendees, but everybody had fun. Junior Amara Patel ‘24 says that, “the mixer was really fun since I got to hang out with everybody and eat the food. I think everybody had a lot of fun, and it was a nice way to end the night.”

“The seniors really showed up and made the night fun,” says Mohammadi. She urges the other grades to also participate in the dancing a little more next time.

Be sure to show up to games and support the boys!
