Barstow’s Middle School Service Club is a group of students who are dedicated to making a positive impact on their community. Through a variety of community service projects and initiatives, the club is making a real difference in the lives of those around them.
Since its start, the club has organized many successful service projects, including the most recent drive, Go With the Flow. The students work closely with Giving the Basics to identify areas where they can make a difference, and they put in the time and effort needed to get the job done.
Many members of the service club say that it’s fun and a great club to be in. “I think service club is actually a really fun club because we get to do impactful activities that’s going to change our school,” Ishita Gogireddy (‘27) stated. The club meets on Tuesday and Thursday during the designated club meeting time.
Another member of the club, Rania Ahsan (‘27) said this, “On Tuesdays, we decide on things we want to get done for the week and plan them out. We also go over goals and things like that. On Thursday we tackle the projects. For example, after the drive we wanted to thank our donors and supporters, so Thursday we created a card for them.”
One of the projects the club undertook was to help provide menstrual products to people in need, called “Go With the Flow.” Students worked together to create posters and flyers to promote the event, and they spent the week at the front, from 8:00 to 8:30, collecting donations. From Monday to Thursday, anybody who donated could receive stickers, and on Friday they gave out donuts.
The drive turned out to be a huge success. Alec Seidel (‘27), a member of the middle school service club, said, “It went really great. We got a lot of donations, we made a big impact in the community, and I thought the turnout was really great too.” They received the most donations on Friday because of the donuts.
The impact of the club on the community has been significant. The local organizations that the club has partnered with said that they donated twice as much as the year past, and the students themselves have gained a greater understanding of the importance of giving back. By participating in these projects, the students are not only making a difference in the lives of those around them but are also developing leadership skills and a sense of community responsibility.
The students involved in the club take on leadership roles and work together to plan and execute various projects. They learn important skills such as communication, organization, and problem-solving, which will serve them well in the future. They also gain a sense of pride and ownership in the work they are doing, knowing that they are making a positive impact on their community.
Barstow’s Middle School Service Club is making a real difference in the lives of those around them. Through their hard work and dedication, the students are promoting the value of community service and showing that even the smallest actions can have a big impact. Their efforts are a shining example of what can be accomplished when individuals come together for the greater good.
