As one of Barstow’s spring sports teams, the boys golf team has started to practice and compete in tournaments. The first practice took place February 28, and since then, the boys team has experienced a successful season. Despite delays due to inclement weather, the team has started out their season strong with success in tournaments and practices.

Most recently, on April 11, the team participated in the Jaguar Invitational at Lakewood Oaks Country Club. Tyler McNeive (‘24) finished in 7th place out of 75 with a score of 78. Paranjay Sharma (‘24) scored a 90, David Williams (‘25) scored a 99, Owen Snyder (‘24) scored a 100, and Eli Boyer (‘24) scored a 111.

Sharma ‘24 stated that, “Practices have been rained out most of the time, but it’s been going good so far. We’ve had one tournament, it was a good start to the season, but we should do better. I think we have a chance to win districts if we get better.”

Despite having multiple practices rained out, the boys golf team performed incredibly well at their most recent tournament. In addition to the Jaguar Invitational, the boys also did an extremely good job at the Fred Arbanas Golf Course. McNeive ‘24 was able to score a 74 to win second place at the tournament. This proves Barstow’s boys golf team has the potential to place at many other tournaments throughout the year. With enough determination, hard work, and support, the team could even win districts.

The members of the boys golf team have expressed their appreciation for the team. Sharma ‘24 explained, “I’ve been playing golf for five years, two years for Barstow. Golf has helped me relax and is a good sport for me to play.” So far this season, the team has done a magnificent job of representing Barstow with a positive attitude.

Boys golf is one of the many sports Barstow offers for the spring. School sports allow for the Barstow community to come together and support each other outside of school. Games and tournaments especially allow the Barstow community to demonstrate their school spirit to other schools in the Kansas City community. If the Barstow community continues to support the boys golf team, the participants will experience an enjoyable season.

The boys golf team has helped to bring the Barstow community together this spring. Barstow’s golf team could not exist without the commitment and dedication of the students, parents, and faculty involved. From the progress the team has exhibited since the start of the season, it is sure to be an exciting rest of the year.
