Barstow’s JV and Varsity volleyball teams opened the season with games against Cass-Midway High School. Although both teams lost their season opener games, they played strong. It was the team’s first time playing together, but their teamwork was outstanding.
The JV team played well, even though their game started late, but lost to Cass-Midway. The volleyball team manager, Chanelle Anderson (‘24), said, “The team played really well and stayed positive the whole time, which is what matters.”
The team had many great plays throughout the game, which we will continue to see throughout the remainder of the season. The opponents were up a decent amount towards the beginning and middle of the second set, but Barstow almost tied it up following a timeout.
Unfortunately, they still lost, but “they did a great job keeping the game tights,” according to Anderson. They look forward to their improvement in the next game.
The varsity game started strong as well, despite a couple questionable ref calls, with many strong serves and some great saves. Team Captain, Hayley Greenwood (‘24), says, “I think we could have played better but we did a good job keeping a good attitude.” The team stayed strong in the first two sets, but varsity player Mylie Cadwalader (‘25) thinks “the team got frustrated in the last set.”
Overall, both teams played great and their teamwork really showed.
