After a long season of preparation, the Dance Team’s hard work finally paid off. On Saturday, January 21st, the Knight Stars made their way to St. Louis to compete in their first regional competition, hosted by Fort Zumwalt North High School.
“The dance team has been working hard all year,” said Head Coach Krista Logan. “This weekend, all of their hard work paid off at our first regional competition.”
The Knight Stars competed two routines at the competition: their jazz routine to “Sweet Dreams,” and their hip-hop routine to a mix of different songs. Jazz was the first dance they performed, followed by their hip-hop 50 minutes later.
The team anxiously waited for the rest of the competition to finish. Captain Lizzie Boyce (‘23) says that in the meantime, she “really enjoyed watching the other schools compete their routines.”
The team then waited for their categories to go during the awards ceremony. In the jazz category, their routine placed 3rd overall. The hip-hop category was next, and anxiety grew as the announcer counted down from 5th place, to 4th, and so on, until 1st place, which was awarded to your very own Knight Stars.
Team coach Krista Logan is “proud of the dedication to the team” and encourages everyone to support the dance team at their next competition. “The next competition is the Show Me State Showcase, on February 4th at Blue Springs High School. Everybody is encouraged to come support the dance team there, and at their state competition, on February 25th at the local Hy-Vee Arena.”
Come out and support the Knight Stars on February 4th! It’s sure to be entertaining for the whole audience!
