The soccer team is very excited for the new season, mainly because of a new group of sixth graders. Not only is the team excited, but the coaches are too.
“I have been playing soccer for four years now,” said Bennett Schreiber, feeling very enthusiastic about the new season. “My favorite teammate is probably Sutton or Max,” said Schreiber.
Playing a sport while having homework isn’t easy. Some kids just can’t handle playing a sport and homework at the same time. Time management is very important for a soccer player because it teaches them to balance priorities with fun.
It is very important for a soccer player to stay active while playing soccer so that they can be in top shape for game day. “I think that the whole team is fit enough for soccer,” Schreiber said.
Practice follows a pretty predictable formula. First the team suits up and then walk out to the soccer field. The coaches talk for a little bit and then they split up into grade levels. Once they are split by grade, they then go through different drills to help them get better at different things when it comes to soccer. Some of the team’s favorite drills are to get better at on goal shots, or footwork drills.
What can game day look like? When it is game day the players would go down to the main field and warm up on the home team side, then the coach would talk with the players to get plays drawn up. Then the match would begin!
Half time is very important for players and coaches with half time comes with water breaks for the players and better play designs for the coaches. After the game, the players from both teams would shake each other’s hand for a good game.
Soccer season is important to many people in the Barstow community and other families that come to games. The Barstow soccer team is really excited for the brand new season and for the brand new team.
